Strong pedagogical vision
Autonomy takes centre stage at De Regenboog. We believe it is important that children are given the opportunity to discover new things on their own. Naturally, this involves trial and error, but it ultimately gives children a lot of self-confidence.
As a green daycare centre, De Regenboog has a large, green natural garden. Playing in the natural garden promotes interplay, the imagination and children’s sense of harmony and well-being. We go outside with the children every day, in good and bad weather. There is plenty to do in our garden, including a willow tunnel and a large sandpit. Children can play there to their hearts’ content!
Committed team
Our team consists of childcare workers, the manager and the cook. Our team is mix of highly experienced staff and young staff. Some of us regularly attend workshops on natural gardens. They inspire other team members and children, but parents as well. De Regenboog has its own manager.
Full of activities
We tie in with children’s development with our activities and work with themes such as fantasy, movement, fairy tales and water. We do all kinds of theme-related activities with the children, such as crafts, music, reading, drama, movement games or yoga. Artists such as musicians, dancers, visual artists and other experts support us in these activities. It is not the result that matters, but the creative process the child goes through.
Healthy lifestyle
At De Regenboog, we attach great importance to a responsible diet, eating healthy and organic food. Our cook Roos prepares a hot meal for the children every day, with natural and daily fresh products. We use organic products whenever possible. Vegetarian or halal meals are also among the options. Healthy food is part of a healthy lifestyle, which is why we involve the children in meal preparations. That way they learn to recognise the different ingredients and flavours.
As a green daycare centre, we spend a lot of time outside. Many activities blend into one another indoors and outdoors. In the garden, children can pursue their wildest imagination during free play. There is plenty of space for running and cycling, there are cabins and a forest trail. They can play with water, sand, branches, in the play tunnels or in the willow yurt.
Characteristic buildings
Situated in a public park, our surroundings are green as well. We are located in a big building at the Houtmankade, in the heart of the Spaarndammerbuurt neighbourhood and close to Westerpark. The building is spacious and was one of the first buildings in Amsterdam that was built specifically as a daycare centre. The daycare centre is close to the newly constructed Houthavens residential area.
