Strong pedagogical vision
Daycare De Kraai draws its inspiration from Emmi Pikler’s pedagogical vision. In the two toddler groups, children from the age of 2 follow the Kaleidoscoop early childhood education (ECE) programme (preschool). The baby groups also work with the ECE themes and there are a number of low-threshold ECE elements in the groups, which helps introduce the children to ECE in a playful and easily accessible way.
At De Kraai, we value children’s self-reliance – within their own respective developmental stages, of course. Children are involved in the day’s programme, the decoration of the rooms and the garden. We encourage them to conduct activities together. They help out with household chores, for example, where they are given small tasks to perform. This gives them a sense of responsibility and independence, making them feel big and valued.
Experienced team
Our team consists of experienced childcare workers and the manager. Made up of committed staff, ours is a close-knit team of people from different backgrounds with a wide variety of interests and talents. Consisting of a mix of senior employees and staff educated at universities of applied sciences, our team is versatile and knowledgeable in the field of education and pedagogy.
De Kraai has its own manager. Parents can contact her if they have any questions.
Full of activities
Every two months, we work with a theme, such as nature, holiday destinations, clothing, colours and shapes. Throughout the day, we integrate the themes into all our activities. The presentation of what we do and the pieces created by the children can be admired in the group room and on the theme table right when you enter the daycare.
Healthy lifestyle
Every other week, the children receive a healthy hot meal. Meals are delivered fresh twice a week by Moekes Maaltijd, a catering service for daycare centres and schools. In the other week, children receive a responsible, partly organic bread meal. With bread meals, children can choose from a variety of raw vegetables, spreads and toppings. The meals are varied, so that children can be introduced to different tastes and flavours. Sometimes, the children help prepare the meal, allowing them to learn about the flavours and textures of the ingredients. All meals are vegetarian.
Also on the menu every day is fresh fruit, whole-wheat crackers or rice cakes.
Characteristic building
Our daycare is located in an old and very spacious school building in the eastern part of Amsterdam’s Centrum district. It has been converted into a childcare facility and has spacious and bright group rooms directly adjoining the newly renovated and large outdoor playground.
This stately building houses everything under one roof: daycare, after-school care, obstetrician’s practice and the Parent and Child Centre. The different organisations use each other’s facilities and expertise. For parents, this pooling of expertise is very convenient.
