Strong pedagogical vision
We are inspired by Maria Montessori’s pedagogical vision, paying great attention to the individual child and encouraging independence. The homey decoration of the group rooms is classic Montessori. We also work with the Kaleidoscoop early childhood education (ECE) programme. This programme focuses primarily on language development and aims to expand children’s vocabulary. This is done in a playful way. In addition, it is a method that focuses on budding numeracy, social-emotional behaviour, play behaviour and learning, self-reliance and motor skills. This is a good way of working in a development-oriented manner within childcare practice and encourages the development of the child.
Experienced team
We are an experienced team consisting of qualified childcare workers and we are regularly joined by interns undergoing pedagogical training. We hardly ever need to use external substitutes. This way, children and parents always have a familiar face in front of the group. Adriënne Tas is the manager. She has been working at the Westerdok centre since it opened in 2009 and she knows all the children and parents. You can contact her for any questions you might have.
Full of activities
In line with our vision, we offer a full and varied programme of activities everywhere, allowing the children to discover all kinds of things in all kinds of development areas. We work with themes such as the farm, food, traffic and holidays. We do this through storytelling, conversations with the children, plays, games and crafts. Also, musicians from the Amsterdam Conservatory drop by to make music with the children every month and artists visit us every other week. This is all about introducing the children to, and getting them to experience, music and materials.
Monkey Moves
Monkey Moves joins us every month. They organise movement activities for the children in a playful way. This is all about play, movements, colours and balls. Every session is a party!
Healthy lifestyle
The children receive a delicious hot meal for lunch with fresh ingredients or a bread meal with a salad. Exercise is also important for a child’s healthy development. We play many exercise games and spend a lot of time outdoors, where there is plenty to do. In the playground, the youngest children can play with water, among other things, and there is a real outdoor kitchen and wooden playhouses.
Every other week, the children receive a healthy hot meal. Meals are delivered fresh twice a week by Moekes, a catering service for daycare centres and schools.
Characteristic building
Our daycare centre is situated in a modern and open building at Westerdokseiland. We have four vertical groups from 0 to 4 years. The daycare centre has a cool, fresh and bright appearance. Our theme is Holland, featuring red, white and blue accents. We overlook the canal with houseboats.
