Strong pedagogical vision
At Jor & Daan, we aim to foster the child’s independence. We offer children the space to choose their own path and explore the world around them, all from a safe and familiar environment and with consideration for others. Jor & Daan has a distinct pedagogical vision of early childhood education, inspired by Célestin Freinet; independence and equality are the key concepts in our pedagogical vision.
Experienced team
Our close-knit team is experienced and knowledgeable. We work with fixed groups and with fixed childcare workers, which offers continuity and safety. There are two childcare workers in the group every day and we work with regular stand-in workers, who know the children and our working methods. Jor & Daan has its own manager, Anouk de Nijs. Full of activities
During our creative activities, there is a strong focus on everyday life. Important in this respect are the neighbourhood, the seasons, celebrations and the day-to-day operations of the daycare centre. Culture, music and exercise take centre stage at Jor & Daan. For instance, we regularly organise music and dance activities, theatre and puppetry. We take trips around the neighbourhood, to the petting zoo, the playground or go grocery shopping together.
Healthy lifestyle
Three times a week, on alternating days, our cook prepares a fresh, hot and healthy meal, often organic. We involve the children in the preparations, so they learn about ingredients and the different tastes and textures of food. On the other days, the children receive a healthy bread meal, with organic ingredients whenever possible.
We have a large outdoor playground with exciting play equipment and a large sandpit. In summer, there is a large awning which allows us to play in the shade. There is a separate playground for babies. We go outside every day, to visit the playground or to take a trip around the neighbourhood. When the weather is nice, we often go to the Westerpark or visit other playgrounds in the neighbourhood.
Characteristic building
Our daycare, in the heart of the Jordaan neighbourhood, has been around for over 35 years and is housed in a characteristic building designed specifically as a daycare. Its unusual layout makes it an exciting and challenging building for children Impression
