Strong pedagogical vision
Plancius daycare centre has three vertical groups from 0 to 4 years and works with the Early Childhood Education (ECE) programme that stimulates children’s social, emotional and motor development through play and promotes play behaviour, learning and language development. We work with the Pyramid programme, which is based on themes with activities that tie in with the child’s social environment and development. This allows each child to develop at their own pace.
Experienced team
At Plancius, we work with a versatile, experienced and committed team, consisting of twelve childcare workers and the manager. Our team is regularly joined by interns undergoing pedagogical training.

Full of activities
We make every day a special day! We offer the children varied and challenging activities. Our methods are development-oriented and our activities are well-suited to the social environment and development of each and every child. We work with themes and do all kinds of theme-based activities. The group room and play corners are also adapted to the theme. In our workshop, we create beautiful things with the children.
Every month, we welcome Fleur, a furniture maker who gives carpentry workshops and does carpentry and construction activities with the children. Musician from MeMo (Memorable Moments) drop by regularly as well to make music with the children. These musicians are students of the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Healthy lifestyle
The children receive a delicious hot meal for lunch with fresh organic ingredients or an organic bread meal with a salad. For the little ones, we make a fresh vegetable puree every day.
Playing outside is important to us and we like to do plenty of that in our fun outdoor playground. We go outside every day. On nice days, we all like to go to the Westerpark, which is just around the corner from us.
Characteristic building
Our beautiful spacious building is a former school building that has been renovated completely while retaining characteristic details. The playfully decorated group rooms are spacious and bright and have a homey and intimate atmosphere. The rooms have extra windows at the bottom, so that even the little ones can see what is happening outside.
Our building is in the heart of the Zeehelden neighbourhood in Amsterdam’s Centrum district, close to Haarlemmerplein and the Houthavens. The Jordaan neighbourhood and Westerpark are also within walking distance. Plancius has a nice, fenced playground. The children can enjoy riding their bicycles, climbing or sliding down the slide hidden in our climbing hill. We have an indoor sandpit, where sandcastles are built. We go outside every day and eat at picnic tables when the weather is nice.
The Plancius building is home to an after-school childcare centre. This allows the children to stay in their familiar surroundings with peers they know.
